Old`s hurdler on the comeback trail

Sir Talbot is set to make his comeback in the #75,000 Victor Chandler Bula Hurdle at Cheltenham on Saturday after two years on the sidelines.

The seven-year-old won the Vincent O`Brien County Hurdle at the 1999 Cheltenham Festival and was unlucky in this race the following season but his career has since been halted by a pelvic injury.

'The intention is to run Sir Talbot in the Victor Chandler Bula Hurdle on Saturday - unless anything goes wrong between now and then,' said trainer Jim Old.

'The horse had a fractured pelvis, which he sustained in a schooling fall, just before the 2000 Smurfit Champion Hurdle.

'Last year at about Christmas time, it became clear that he wasn`t going to stand up to training so we stopped again and that meant another break of around four or five months before he could go back into training.

'We`ve done as much as we can with him in the given time. We would ideally have liked some more time but with horses like him there aren`t many races that he can run in and so we have to take our chance on Saturday.
